U. Hills has a full day of school

Description
Per email that was sent to staff and families on April 19, 2024 Dear University Hills Families, School districts are allowed up to six days of forgiveness annually by the state of Michigan. Rochester Community Schools has utilized the allotted number of forgiven school days for University Hills Elementary School only. During the 2023-24 school year, RCS experienced four inclement weather days. Classes were also canceled at University Hills on Nov. 27-28, 2023, due to flooding from a failed hot water heater pipe coupling. Additionally, RCS experienced one day where we failed to reach the minimum required attendance of 75 percent, which was the half day of school before spring break. As confirmed by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Oakland Schools, there is no opportunity for RCS to avoid penalty without adding an additional instructional day to our 2023-24 academic calendar for University Hills Elementary School. University Hills Elementary School is now scheduled for an additional full day of school on Friday, May 17, 2024. School-Age Care (SAC), transportation and food services will be available to provide support. Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) does not need to make up this day at University Hills. There will be no school for all other RCS students on May 17; staff professional development will continue as scheduled at all other locations. If you have any questions or concerns, University Hills families can contact Todd Calcamuggio at tcalcamuggio@rochester.k12.mi.us . We appreciate your support. Sincerely, John Silveri, Interim Superintendent Todd Calcamuggio, University Hills Principal
